Nearly Half of Citizens Remain Unmarried, Despite Government Support

Surprisingly, the data also shows that more than 2,000 Kuwaitis married between the ages of 15 and 19, with the vast majority being young women. Of these early marriages, 1,984 involved females, while only 104 involved males.

New statistics reveal that almost half of Kuwait’s population remains unmarried, despite extensive government support throughout life stages, including education, employment, and marriage. Out of over 1.065 million Kuwaiti citizens, 409,201—comprising 215,000 males and 194,000 females—are still single. These figures highlight societal obstacles that discourage many from getting married.

Meanwhile, concerns over rising divorce rates continue to grow. The Ministry of Justice recorded 38,786 divorces among Kuwaitis, with the highest rates seen in those aged 35 to 39. Alarmingly, 800 couples divorced within their first year of marriage.

The statistics also underscore a stark gender imbalance among Kuwait’s widowed population. Of the 35,319 widowed citizens, 30,739 are women—nearly six times the number of men who have lost their spouses.
