Empowering works of charity by enhancing transparency

The Ministry of Social Affairs issued a circular that includes new controls for the internal disbursement mechanisms of charitable associations and foundations, with the aim of enhancing transparency and facilitating financial procedures.

The controls include:

  1.  Commitment to transfer financial aid exclusively through banks.
  2. Limiting the issuance of cheques to necessary cases only.
  3. Facilitating financial transactions through electronic linking between the Ministry and banks.
  4. Agreeing not to require prior approvals for some regular banking operations so as to facilitate the work of charitable associations and foundations.

This circular came during a meeting held yesterday, Thursday, in the presence of Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry, who welcomed representatives of local banks.

Al-Ajmi also praised the efforts of the directors of the Department of Charitable Societies, Endowments and Civil Society Associations in the Ministry, for their effective role in enhancing cooperation with the relevant authorities, which contribute in achieving common goals.

At the end of the meeting, the Ministry confirmed its intention to update the automation system for managing charitable associations and foundations based on the outcomes of the meeting.

These measures and facilitative efforts by Ministry of Social Affairs will ensure greater transparency and efficiency in the financial operations of the associations involved.
