Vitamin D key to strong bones and balanced muscles for everyone

Dr. Abdul Nasser Al-Othman, the founding president of the Osteoarthritis Association, highlighted the importance of entering later years with higher bone density and slowing its loss, both of which can be achieved through a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise and good nutrition.

Dr. Adel Reda, a consultant in internal medicine, endocrinology, and diabetes, warned against the consumption of soft drinks, as they can increase the risk of osteoporosis, calling for attention to correcting vitamin D levels in the body to protect against the disease.

Dr. Abdul Nasser Al-Othman, the founding president of the Osteoarthritis Association and an endocrinologist consultant, stated that vitamin D supplementation has become essential for everyone, including newborns and the elderly, to maintain bone strength and muscle balance, according to Al Jarida newspaper.

Dr. Al-Othman told the newspaper that low bone density is a natural occurrence for everyone after the age of thirty. He pointed out that maintaining a normal level of vitamin D in our bodies is crucial for protecting our bones. The lifestyle of the majority of people around the world, characterized by insufficient exposure to sunlight, has led to widespread vitamin D deficiency, according to published scientific studies.

He emphasized the importance of entering these years of life with higher bone density and reducing the acceleration of bone density loss. Both can be influenced by a healthy lifestyle, which includes exercise for strengthening bones and good nutrition.

For his part, Dr. Adel Reda, a consultant in internal medicine, endocrinology, and diabetes, stated that osteoporosis is a common disease, and its danger lies in the fact that it has no obvious symptoms, leading to a gradual weakening of the bones and an increased risk of fractures.

Dr. Reda told Al-Jarida newspaper that the progression of the disease in advanced stages may cause deformities in the spine and may also affect the pelvic and wrist bones, as well as the arms.

He added that osteoporosis is related to aging along with other contributing factors and is not connected to back pain, as is commonly believed among the general public. He stressed the need for periodic examinations for women over the age of fifty and men over the age of sixty to monitor bone fragility.

He emphasized that there is an increased incidence of osteoporosis in patients who use high doses of cortisone for extended periods, including those with asthma, kidney diseases, and skin disorders. He also warned against the consumption of soft drinks, as they can increase the risk of osteoporosis, calling for attention to correcting vitamin D levels in the body to protect against the disease.
