Nearly one-third of Kuwait’s internet users experience cyber attacks

Internet users in Qatar experienced the highest cyber attack exposure in the GCC at 38.8 percent, followed by Bahrain at 35.1 percent, the UAE at 31.7 percent, and Kuwait at 30.8 percent.

Turkey led with 41.8 percent of web users facing cyber attacks, followed by Saudi Arabia at 29.9 percent, Oman at 23.4 percent, and Egypt at 27.4 percent.

Amid the rising threat of cyber attacks, recent statistics reveal that 30.8 percent of internet users in Kuwait experienced such attacks over the past year. In comparison, Turkey had the highest rate, with 41.8 percent of web users facing these threats, according to Al-Rai newspaper.

In the Gulf, statistics prepared by Kaspersky, which specializes in electronic security and includes the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, revealed that internet users in Qatar faced the highest exposure to cyber attacks in the GCC, with 38.8 percent affected. This was followed by users in Bahrain at 35.1 percent, the United Arab Emirates at 31.7 percent, Kuwait at 30.8 percent, Saudi Arabia at 29.9 percent, and Oman at 23.4 percent.

Regionally in Africa, 27.4 percent of users in Egypt experienced attacks, while 24.4 percent of users in Pakistan were affected. In South Africa, the rate was 35 percent, with Nigeria at 35.7 percent and Kenya leading with a higher percentage of 39.2 percent.

On another note, the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority stated that “radio amateurs are prohibited from importing any wireless equipment or devices unless prior approval is obtained from the authority,” according to the provisions of the regulation governing the radio amateur service.
