Speeding fuels three million traffic offenses in first six months of 2024

Ninety-three percent of accidents caused by distracted driving are linked to hand-held phone use behind the wheel in just 182 days.

• As many as 30,868 phone-related violations and 9,472 other inattentiveness offenses were recorded in the first half of this year.

The Ministry of Interior’s Operations and Traffic Affairs Sector reported that 3,100,638 traffic violations were recorded in the first six months of 2024 (182 days). Speeding was the most common offense, with 1,531,625 violations during this period, according to a report published in the Al Rai newspaper.

The sector reported that 93 percent of accidents caused by inattention are due to hand-held phone use while driving, noting that 30,868 phone-related violations and 9,472 other inattentiveness offenses were recorded in the first half of 2024.
