IAK celebrates Onam with vibrant festivities at ICSK School in Salmiya
The IAK Onavesham-2024 was a resounding success, bringing the community together to celebrate the spirit of Onam with joy and camaraderie.
The Idukki Association Kuwait (IAK) celebrated its annual Onam festival, “Onavesham-2024,” at ICSK School in Salmiya on September 20. The event showcased Kerala’s rich cultural heritage with a variety of traditional performances, activities, and a grand feast.
The program began with melodious songs by Aneesh Ragasudha and Anoop Johny, setting a festive tone for the day. This was followed by heartfelt gratitude to the event sponsors, acknowledging their generous support.
One of the highlights was the Thalappoli Ghoshayatra, coordinated by Biju Jose and his team, which brought the essence of Kerala’s traditional festivities to life. The audience enjoyed a captivating Chendamelam and a Pulikali performance, with Ouseppachan as Mavelimaking a grand appearance on stage.
The cultural program featured a beautiful Thiruvathira dance, a family skit, a couple dance, various dance performances, and a couple fashion show led by VinithaOuseppachan. The public meeting was inaugurated by James Jacob, Second Secretary and Head of Chancery at the Embassy of India.
Notable speeches were delivered by IAK President Abin Thomas, Joy Alukkas Group Country Head Vinod Kumar, Royal Seagull Chairman Sunil Parakkapadath, Program General Convener AnishPrabhakaran, Women’s Forum Chairperson Raji ShajiMathew, and Advisory Board Chairman Jiji Mathew. General Secretary Jobins Joseph offered the welcome speech, while Treasurer Bijo Joseph gave the vote of thanks.
Versatile singer Arun Guinness captivated the audience with a variety of songs, ranging from melodic ballads to dynamic medleys and powerful vocals. The celebration continued with vibrant dances performed by Swastika Bharatanatyam Dance Academy, Nrithyadhee School of Dance and Music, and Jas Dancing School in Mangaf, as well as community members.
The Sadya, a traditional feast, was a highlight of Onavesham-2024. Served on banana leaves, it featured an array of delicious vegetarian dishes, showcasing Kerala’s rich culinary heritage. The feast was arranged by a team led by Lalgi George and Babu Sebastian.
The IAK Tug of War team, which performed well in recent tournaments in Kuwait, was honored on stage. A stunning flower carpet was arranged by Jiji Mathew and his team. The boat and Kathakali display, coordinated by IAK Secretary Jomon P. Jacob, added a special touch to the program.
The event was coordinated by Anish Prabhakaran, with support from Jose Thomas, Shiju Babu, and Tom Edayodiyil. The anchoring team, led by Georgy Mathew, included Merin Bijo, Johanna Johnly, Ashita Mary Binoj, and Anona Jinto. Guests were welcomed and accompanied by Babu Parayani and his team.
