The Kuwait Municipality has given its green light to a proposal by the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport to allocate land for the construction of stormwater drainage basins and channels in the Maqwa area, designed to serve the Ahmadi and Mangaf regions.

The Public Authority views this project as a solution to the chronic flooding problem that plagues the area, reports Al-Jarida newspaper.

The approved plan involves the conversion of a portion of a forested area into two drainage basins, one measuring 92,102 square meters and the other 209,405 square meters.

Additionally, two channels will be constructed, one spanning 2,021 meters and 40 meters wide, and the other 343 meters long and 40 meters wide. Connecting pipelines will also be installed.

The municipality has stipulated that the project must adhere to the conditions set forth by the Subcommittee for Utilities and Public Services during its meeting on May 4, 2021, and that all parties involved must coordinate before commencing construction.
