Ministry unveils new workshop for production of solar panels

The Central Public Tenders Authority has granted financial approval for the project and will manage the submission, evaluation, and awarding of tenders to specialized companies.

The new workshop aims to boost renewable energy use and achieve 15% renewable electricity by 2035, with a dedicated solar panel production facility within the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy.

The Shagaya plant has demonstrated that solar panel technology is the most effective compared to the other technologies.

Sources in the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy revealed that the ministry has budgeted for a solar panel production workshop for the fiscal year 2024/2025. Financial approval for the project has been granted by the Central Public Tenders Authority, which will oversee the submission, evaluation, and awarding of tenders to specialized companies, the Al Jarida newspaper reported.

The sources explained that establishing the workshop is a step towards increasing the use of renewable energy in electricity production and achieving the goal of generating fifteen percent of electricity from renewable sources by 2035. The project involves setting up a new building for solar panel production within the ministry.

The sources also noted that the workshop will focus on producing solar panels, which studies have confirmed are the most suitable for Kuwait.

Solar panels are efficient and cost-effective, and the energy they produce is stable and readily supplied to customers through the ministry’s network, compared to other renewable technologies like thermal panels.

Sources explained that the Shagaya plant, a pilot project by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research designed to produce seventy megawatts using three types of renewable energy technology, demonstrated that solar panel technology is the most effective compared to the other technologies.
