The Ministry of Public Works and the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport, in cooperation with the General Traffic Department, opened the second phase of roads and bridges leading to the Avenues Mall this morning, according to Al Jarida newspaper.

Eng. Ahmed Al-Saleh, the Undersecretary of the Planning Sector at the Ministry of Public Works and the official spokesperson for the ministry, stated in a press release during the opening that the first phase of the roads leading to the Avenues Mall was opened within the past nine months.

The opening occurred swiftly due to Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, the Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, prioritizing the project, addressing all obstacles that had halted progress for years.

Al-Saleh noted that the suspension of this project had caused numerous accidents on the Fifth Ring Road. Its completion will help prevent these accidents and alleviate traffic congestion for visitors to the vital facility, ‘The Avenues.’

He explained that the ‘Al-Iltifaq Bridge’ on the Fifth Avenue in front of the Avenues Mall is the first exit toward Jahra and a U-turn to Salmiya. The project was completed quickly with the contractor’s cooperation after overcoming previous delays.

Dr. Al-Mashaan, upon assuming her role, established a mechanism to organize the ministry’s work and projects. She emphasized that pending projects require good planning and follow-up.

The ministry has launched an application to track all projects, enabling officials to monitor work orders, particularly those related to maintenance contracts.

Al-Saleh highlighted that past meetings with government agencies have moved beyond bureaucratic delays with a new proactive approach.

The application will be available to officials and employees of the Ministry of Public Works for tracking construction projects, with a separate application for maintenance contracts.

Regarding the Fifth Ring Road Tunnel, Al-Salehindicated that the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport is working to complete it, addressing existing services and old infrastructure at the site. He expressed optimism about the tunnel opening soon.

Regarding road maintenance practices, Al-Salehmentioned that the Central Agency for Public Tenders has referred these practices to the Ministry of Public Works and the General Authority for Roads.

A committee is currently evaluating the bids submitted by companies, which will then be reviewed by the Central Agency for Public Tenders based on recommendations from the Ministry and the Roads Authority. The award decision will follow, along with obtaining approval from the Audit Bureau for these projects and signing contracts.

Al-Saleh also noted that the Abdul Razzaq Gate maintenance project is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed within the next few months, allowing the gate to be opened to the public.
