Kuwait’s inflation climbs 2.84% in June

Annual inflation rose due to price increases in key groups, particularly clothing, food, and education.

  • The inflation rate in Kuwait increased by 0.22 percent in June compared to May.

  • The index for F&B rose by 5.60% in June compared to June 2023, while the index for cigarettes and tobacco increased slightly by 0.15%.

Data from the Kuwaiti Central Statistical Administration showed that the consumer price index ‘inflation’ rose by 2.84 percent in June on an annual basis, as reported by Al Rai newspaper on Sunday,

The statistics agency provided data to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) indicating that the inflation rate in Kuwait increased by 0.22 percent in June compared to May.

The agency added that the rise in inflation on an annual basis was due to increases in the prices of the main groups that affect the movement of the indices, particularly clothing, food, education, and clothing.

It explained that the index for the first group ‘food and beverages’ rose by 5.60 percent in June compared to the same month in 2023, and the price index for the second group ‘cigarettes and tobacco’ rose slightly by 0.15 percent on an annual basis.

The index for the third group ‘clothing’ increased by 5.58 percent, while the prices for the group ‘housing services’ rose by 0.91 percent, and the inflation rate for the fifth group ‘home furnishings’ rose by 3.80 percent.

The agency reported that the price index for the sixth group ‘health’ rose by 3.99 percent, while the prices for the (transportation) group increased by 0.70 percent in June compared to the same month in 2023.

Statistics showed that the prices for the eighth group ‘communications’ rose by 2.29 percent on an annual basis, while the inflation rate for the ninth group ‘entertainment and culture’ increased by 2.04 percent, and the prices for the tenth group ‘education’ rose by 0.96 percent.

The agency pointed out that the prices for the ‘restaurants and hotels’ group rose by 2.52 percent on an annual basis in June, while the prices for the ‘various goods and services’ group increased by 4.55 percent.

The agency pointed out that the inflation rate in Kuwait, excluding the food and beverage group, rose by 2.27 percent on an annual basis last June.
