Fire Department advises on elevator use during planned outages

However, should an elevator become stuck during a power outage, the Fire Department urges occupants to remain calm and avoid panicking. Attempting to pry open the elevator doors is strictly discouraged.

The recommended course of action is to activate the elevator’s emergency call button to notify building security or emergency services.

In order to minimize potential injuries from sudden movements, the Fire Department suggests sitting on the elevator floor while awaiting assistance. It is important to remember that a direct line to the Fire Department is always available by dialing 112.
