Kuwait revokes citizenship from seven, including British national

• The Ministry of Interior continues its efforts to uncover counterfeiters and duplicators on multiple levels, whether through completing the Gulf biometric linkage project or conducting research and investigations into certain files.

The Supreme Committee for Nationality Investigation continued issuing decisions on citizenship loss and withdrawal, according to a report published in the Al-Rai newspaper.

Two decisions were published in a special supplement to the official newspaper ‘Kuwait Al-Youm’ on Monday, stipulating that seven individuals, including a woman who obtained British citizenship, should lose their Kuwaiti citizenship.

The two decisions stipulated the loss of citizenship in accordance with Articles 9 and 11 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959 regarding the Kuwaiti Nationality Law.

Article 9 states: “If a foreign wife acquires Kuwaiti nationality in accordance with the provisions of the previous two articles (i.e., 7 and 8), she will not lose it upon the end of the marriage unless she regains her original nationality or acquires another nationality.”

Article 11 stipulates that: “A Kuwaiti loses his nationality if he voluntarily naturalizes himself to a foreign nationality. His Kuwaiti wife does not lose her nationality unless she joins his nationality, and his minor children lose their Kuwaiti nationality if they voluntarily take on their father’s new nationality.

They may notify the Minister of the Interior of their choice regarding their Kuwaiti nationality within the two years following their attainment of majority.”

On the other hand, the Ministry of Interior continues its efforts to uncover counterfeiters and duplicators on multiple levels, whether through completing the Gulf biometric linkage project or conducting research and investigations into certain files.

Security sources revealed to Al-Rai newspaper that “the Ministry of Interior is coordinating in this regard with all concerned and relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Education,” noting that in the context of uncovering any cases of forgery or dual nationality, the Ministry of Interior is searching for the educational records of certain individuals and verifying whether they are enrolled in any educational institution, whether public or private, in preparation for taking the necessary measures.
