Croatia, Kuwait keen to enhance cooperation in food security

His Excellency Amir Muharemi, the ambassador of Croatia to the country, praised the strength and durability of the relationship between his country and Kuwait.

He pointed out that both sides aspire to enhance their cooperation in the field of food security. During a press statement on the sidelines of the opening of the exhibition “The Story of the Necktie,” held two days ago at Al-Hamra Mall, and attended by a large group of ambassadors, he mentioned ongoing contacts with the Kuwaiti side on this issue. He also recalled that Croatia is an agricultural country par excellence, highlighting the potential for close cooperation with Kuwait in this field.

He emphasized that food security has become an important topic that strongly connects countries, highlighting Kuwait’s excellent relations with all European countries, which garner everyone’s attention.

The ambassador noted that Croatia is a tourist destination with historical ties to Kuwait, citing several signed agreements in various fields. He mentioned that the embassy issued around 1,000 visas last year, emphasizing that the absence of direct flights to Croatia diminishes Kuwaitis’ interest in visiting his country.

Ambassador Muharemi mentioned, “We have discussed this issue with Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways, but we have not yet received final approval from them.”

He indicated that obtaining a visa for Croatia, which is affiliated with the Schengen Area, is done through the visa center rather than the embassy. Kuwaiti citizens are granted a five-year visa for the first time. He extended an invitation to Kuwaitis to visit his country and enjoy its picturesque nature.

Regarding the exhibition, he stated that it serves as a brief summary highlighting the importance of the necktie throughout centuries, symbolizing cultural values and human dignity. He added that the name “Cravata” is derived from Croatia.

He added that the exhibition accurately delineates the period of the necktie’s emergence, noting its origins in Croatia, followed by its adoption in France, England, Italy, and eventually America, with other countries subsequently following suit. Thus, the story of the necktie branched out in many directions.

On her part, H.E. Anne Koistinen, the European Union Ambassador to the country, mentioned in a speech delivered to the audience that this beautiful exhibition is part of the Europe Month activities in Kuwait. She highlighted that the exhibition, “The Story of the Necktie,” is a fitting tribute to Europe Month as it beautifully narrates the art and history of the necktie. From its origins centuries ago as a functional accessory to its current status as a symbol of refinement and sophistication, the necktie represents a journey of cultural evolution and global recognition.

She said, “Art has a unique ability to unite people across cultures and times, whether expressed through music, sculpture, painting, photography, theater, or in this case, the necktie, as it serves as a universal language of expression. I am committed to taking this cooperation to the next level.”

The ambassador added, “In the European Union ‘family,’ Croatia is the newest EU member state, having joined in 2013. Since then, it has made an important contribution to the functioning of the European Union.”
