Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed opens first French Week in Kuwait

His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah inaugurated the first French Week in Kuwait on Wednesday evening at the Assima Mall, under the theme ‘France in Kuwait’, marking a new milestone in the longstanding strategic partnership between Kuwait and France.

Held under the gracious patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed, the event brought together ministers, members of the ruling family, senior government officials, ambassadors, heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions, and prominent public figures.

The exhibition features a wide range of French institutions and companies showcasing their expertise across various sectors, including culture, automobiles, advanced technology, institutional development and other industries. The participation of internationally renowned brands highlights the diversity and depth of French expertise and innovation.

Strengthening 65 years of bilateral relations

The launch comes in the wake of the official visit to Kuwait by French President Emmanuel Macron on October 19, 2026, during which he was received by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The visit marked a significant milestone in the 65-year history of diplomatic relations between the two countries, culminating in the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding covering the economy, defense, scientific research, education, culture and the exchange of expertise.

These developments reflect the growing momentum of bilateral relations and the deepening strategic partnership between Kuwait and France.

French ambassador highlights depth of partnership

French Ambassador to Kuwait Olivier Gauvin said the ‘France in Kuwait’ exhibition reflects the strength and depth of the strategic partnership between the two countries, built on decades of cooperation and continuing to evolve in ways that promote prosperity, security and mutual interests.

He noted that the exhibition highlights the broad scope of bilateral cooperation, spanning trade and investment, education and culture, defense, and emerging and advanced technologies.
French companies continue to contribute their expertise and innovation across several priority sectors in Kuwait, while Kuwaiti investors and institutions maintain a valued presence in France’s dynamic economy, the ambassador said.

He added that educational and cultural ties remain at the heart of the partnership, strengthened by the continued interest of Kuwaiti students, families and visitors who choose France as a preferred destination.

Gauvin expressed his appreciation for the gracious patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed and commended the efforts of the organizing committee, headed by Ahmad Ismail Behbehani, and his team in bringing the event to fruition.

Chairman of the organizing committee Ahmad Ismail Behbehani said the event, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed, carries exceptional significance in strengthening Kuwaiti-French relations, particularly as the two countries mark 65 years of strong diplomatic ties.
