76 Afghan migrants returning from Iran died in bus accident

At least 76 people lost their lives Tuesday evening in a devastating road accident in western Afghanistan’s Herat province, according to an updated toll released by Afghan authorities today.

The tragedy occurred in Guzara district when a passenger bus carrying Afghan migrants returning from Iran collided with a truck and a motorcycle.

Mohamed Youssef Saidi, spokesman for the Herat regional governor, confirmed the updated figures, stating: “Seventy-six people were killed… and three others remain in critical condition.”

Emergency teams rushed to the scene, where the scale of destruction underscored the vulnerability of Afghan migrants who often face dangerous travel conditions on their return journeys. Authorities are continuing efforts to identify the victims and provide support to families.

The incident marks one of the deadliest road accidents in Afghanistan in recent years, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety, poor infrastructure, and overloaded passenger vehicles frequently used by migrants.
