
A powerful earthquake measuring magnitude 7.0 on Richter scale struck Taiwan on Saturday, shaking buildings across the island, including in the capital, Taipei, authorities said.
No major damage or casualties were immediately reported.
According to Taiwan’s administration, the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 73 kilometers and was felt widely across several regions.
The tremor was classified at intensity level four, indicating strong shaking that can cause noticeable movement of buildings but typically results in limited structural damage, according to news reports.
Emergency services were placed on alert following the quake, while government agencies continued to assess the situation and monitor for aftershocks.
Authorities urged residents to remain cautious and follow safety instructions as inspections of infrastructure and public facilities continued.
