26 suppliers approved for school canteens
The Food and Nutrition Authority announced the approval of 26 suppliers out of the 50 companies that applied for the list of school canteens in cooperation with the Activities Department of the Ministry of Education.
The Deputy Director General of the Community Nutrition Affairs, Dr. Shaima Al-Asfour, told the Kuwait News Agency on Thursday that the period of receiving applications extended from mid-April to last July.
The nutritionist and the head of the canteen development program Nawal Al-Ghazaf confirmed that the approved food items are in line with those provided by school canteens and approved by the Fatwa and Legislation Departments.
Al-Ghazaf added that canteen regulations are divided in two parts, the first relates to the conformity of school canteens with health requirements, and the second focusses on the food aspect, which includes specifications such as packaging card and the validity of food.
She explained that the nutritional varieties have been approved as per school nutrition standards, as they contain the necessary food groups like vitamins, minerals, low sugar and salt.
