191 cameras, 24/7 monitoring, Kuwait strengthens oversight of coops
Modern tech boosts market security and service quality in Cooperative Societies

Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, inaugurated the central control room for monitoring cooperative societies, marking a significant step forward in administrative, financial, and operational oversight.
The control room, located in Abdullah Al-Salem, aims to enhance coordination between government agencies, improve performance in cooperative societies, and ensure high-quality services for citizens. It employs modern technologies to support continuous monitoring and effective management.
Speaking during an inspection tour, Dr. Al-Huwailah highlighted the importance of the project in strengthening government integration. “This connection links the Ministry of Social Affairs, which supervises cooperative societies, with the Ministries of Commerce and Interior. It helps protect strategic stocks, food security, and ensures the stability of goods and prices in the market,” she said.

The minister explained that the system currently operates with 191 cameras across 76 cooperative societies, with plans to expand coverage further.
“This is a step towards full integration. In the future, the number of cameras will increase, and administrative and financial monitoring will become even more comprehensive,” she added. The system allows officials to access live feeds and reports via smartphones at any time.
Dr. Sayed Issa, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative, Financial, and Cooperative Affairs, said the control room operates 24/7 throughout the year, linking cooperative societies’ central markets and supply branches.
“The cameras are connected to the Ministries of Commerce and Interior, ensuring real-time monitoring of markets and supply branches. The system stores data for four months, which can be reviewed at any time, and future expansion will include all suburban centers and area entrances and exits,” he said.
Issa also noted that the project is fully compliant with Law No. 61 of 2015, concerning the regulation and installation of security cameras. The initiative ensures that markets and supply branches are continuously monitored to prevent waste, detect irregularities, and maintain security during crises and peak seasons.
