132,000 teachers, administrators return as new school year begins
The foundation of education system in Kuwait rests on the dedication of 104,163 teachers and 27,797 administrative staff, who work across 1,055 public, private, and religious schools.

As the 2025/2026 academic year begins on Sunday, a total of 131,960 teachers and administrators are set to resume work across Kuwait’s schools. This includes 104,163 teaching staff and 27,797 administrative employees distributed among 1,055 public, private, and religious schools, reported Al Jarida newspaper.
The schools are spread across the country as follows: 174 in the Capital Education Department, 241 in Ahmadi, 194 in Farwaniya, 154 in Jahra, 120 in Hawalli, 115 in Mubarak Al-Kabeer, 39 in special education, and 18 in religious education.
Educational sources said that the work readiness rate in schools has reached 96 percent, based on reports submitted by the preparation teams.
In a related statement, the Ministry of Education confirmed that it is moving ahead with the implementation of new curricula from kindergarten through ninth grade, designed to strengthen national identity while keeping pace with modern scientific and technological developments.
Training courses
The Ministry of Education stated that technical guidance for academic subjects has launched an expanded training plan to prepare the educational sector for the updated curricula at the start of the school year. Training courses will begin, covering the philosophy of the new curriculum, the framework and principles of its design, mechanisms for achieving set standards, and guidance on using the teacher’s manual.
The courses will follow a dual system, combining in-person sessions at specialized centers with online training via digital platforms. The aim is to empower supervisors, department heads, and teachers, including both new and current staff.

Sources confirmed that preparedness efforts are proceeding as planned, with completion rates in school readiness exceeding 96 percent. Acting Undersecretary Eng. Mohammed Al-Khalidi is personally overseeing progress through periodic meetings and unannounced inspections to ensure accuracy in reports.
Electronic systems for staff transfers
The ministry also announced the adoption of electronic systems for staff transfers. According to the new academic calendar, administrative transfer requests will be accepted in two phases: October 5–November 6, 2026, and April 5–May 7, 2026. Teacher transfer requests will be open from February 1–March 31, 2026, while November 2 has been set for receiving applications for supervisory positions.
