$1 billion contribution required for extended membership in Gaza ‘Board of Peace’

  • Each member state’s term will be limited to three years from the charter’s entry into force, subject to renewal by the board’s chairman
  • This limitation would not apply to states that contribute more than $1 billion in cash to the board within the first year

Media reports have revealed that a draft charter for the Gaza “Board of Peace” includes a provision requiring member states to contribute $1 billion in cash to secure extended membership beyond an initial three-year term.

According to excerpts published by Reuters, the draft document—circulated by the US administration to around 60 countries—states that each member state’s term will be limited to three years from the charter’s entry into force, subject to renewal by the board’s chairman.

However, this limitation would not apply to states that contribute more than $1 billion in cash to the board within the first year, according to dw.com

The White House has denied that there is a mandatory membership fee, saying the provision is intended to offer permanent membership to partner countries that demonstrate a strong commitment to peace, security and prosperity.

In a statement posted on X, the White House said there was no minimum cost required to join the board.

US President Donald Trump recently announced the formation of the Gaza “Board of Peace,” which is intended to oversee a transitional administration in the war-torn Palestinian territory. Trump is set to chair the board, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio among its members.

According to the White House, the initiative will consist of three components — a main board chaired by Trump, a Palestinian committee of technocrats tasked with governing Gaza, and an executive advisory board.

The main board is expected to include senior US and international figures, while invitations to join the executive board have reportedly been extended to several world leaders, including those from Argentina, Canada, Egypt, Hungary, Italy and Jordan.
