Appeals Court reduces sentences in high school exam leak case

The Court of Appeal has reduced the sentences in the high-profile case of leaking 2024 high school exams via WhatsApp groups.
The court sentenced two bedoun brothers, a Kuwaiti man, a Kuwaiti woman, and an Egyptian man to five years in prison and fined them 42,000 dinars, reports Al-Rai daily.
Additionally, the court issued a one-year suspended prison sentence to a teacher for leaking the exam content to the defendants.
This ruling amends an earlier verdict issued by the Criminal Court, which had sentenced the same five individuals to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor and fined them 42,000 Kuwaiti dinars.
The teacher had originally received a one-year sentence for providing the exam questions to the group in exchange for payment.
Investigations revealed that the defendants collected 42,000 dinars from students — charging 50 dinars each — in return for providing the correct answers before the exam.
