On the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the birthday of Eternal President KIM IL SUNG of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) (Sun’s Day).
All Koreans who are healthy or patients praise together with one voice the benefits of the popular healthcare system that they have been enjoying. The people express appreciation for the policies of President Kim Il Sung, the founder of this system and the workers’ party of DPRK. It is a big source of pride and good luck for the DPRK people that they have a wonderful healthcare system including complete free medical treatments and preventive medical services.
In the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea), public health is regarded as a major criterion of the image of the socialist system, through which its people personally feel the advantages of the system.
Free Medical Service : It is an important state and social policy that serves all people without discrimination. It is legally guaranteed by the Socialist Constitution and Public Health Law.
Preventive Medical Service : It is regarded as a basic element of the medical service to protect the people and promote their health by preventing diseases.
Medical check-up and inoculation for all the people are organized regularly to detect diseases in time and take medical measures.
Great efforts are made for preventing diseases so if an epidemic disease break out, a strong anti-epidemic line is created to prevent it from spreading. Now as coronavirus is spreading around the world, the DPRK’s fast and strict measures have grabbed international attention.
District Doctor System : Doctors are responsible for some districts where they visit residents to perform checkups and offer preventive treatment.
Likewise, various healthcare procedures are in force like a health protecting system for children and women and a social security system. Additionally, specialized medical services including telemedicine system and first-aid service are continuously being developed.
Thus, the DPRK government invests a lot of money in the sector of medical service, it is not because the country is richer than other countries but it values the lives and health of its people more than anything else.
The investment for public health is increasing every year, with by 6 percent in 2018 and in 2019 by 5.8 percent over the previous years, respectively.
Indeed, DPRK’s public health system is based on the political philosophy of the state centered on popular masses
Popular Medical Service started by President Kim Il Sung
We may say this system is rooted in those popular free medical services given to the people in guerrilla zones in 1930’s when anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle was rising under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, the Founder of the modern DPRK.
On January 1953 when the homeland liberation war was at its height, the system of universal free medical service came into effect.
At the proposition by the President, the popular health law was adopted on April 1980 at the 4th session of the Sixth Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK where the President delivered a speech titled ‘let us implement the public health law to the letter “ in which he put forward tasks for more concern and investment in public health care by the government for further strengthening the popular medical service system.
Popular Medical Service developed by Leader Kim Jong Il
Leader Kim Jong Il has made great efforts to develop the popular medical service system true to the will of the President in public health.
Under his direct guidance, a large maternity hospital was built in Pyongyang for the first time in 1980’s and thus, many successes were made in promotion of health of women and babies.
He stated at a talk with the senior officials in the sector of public health titled ‘some problems arising in improving public health’ that the socialist public healthcare system in DPRK established by the President is indeed the best one in the world and put forward tasks to conduct an all-people anti-epidemic campaign, and make every effort to develop medical science and technology for the purpose of raising medical services to another higher level. He also actively guided the struggle to implement the tasks.
Popular Medical Service modernized by Chairman Kim Jong Un
Kim Jong Un Chairman of the State Affairs Commission made a speech on October 10, 2015 at the Military Parade and Public Procession of the Pyongyang Citizens held in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea in which he affirmed before the world that Kimilsungism -Kimjongilism is, in essence, the people-first principle, and the mode of existence of the Workers’ Party of Korea is serving the people and appealed to everyone to make selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the great people.
Chairman Kim Jong Un has made on-the-spot guidance to many places since earlier 2012 including baby homes, orphanages, old people’s homes, pharmaceutical plants, syringe manufacture, oxygen factory and so on for the safety and health of children, old men and all the people.
In 2017 when the DPRK had been seriously damaged because of severe natural disasters , he instructed to build schools and hospitals first.
Under his guidance, there were built Okryu children’s hospital, medical Oxygen factory, Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital and many other nice public health establishments and eventually in the last month took place a ground-breaking ceremony for construction of Pyongyang General Hospital.
Chairman Kim Jong Un attended the ceremony where he broke ground first to signal the start of the project calling on everyone to turn out in the work for safety and health of the people.
In fact, Safety and health of the people is considered as the most important matter of state affairs in DPRK thanks to the policies of Chairman Kim Jong Un, who is centered on valuing, respecting, and loving people.
DPRK has closed all borders to prevent coronavirus and protect the people taking strong strict anti-epidemic measures.
Especially later last February, Chairman Kim Jong Un held a meeting of the political bureau of the central committee of the WPK and called all people to rise up as one to face the anti-epidemic campaign
So DPRK is continuously maintaining super state procedures to prevent Covid-19 and believes in satisfaction of its anti-epidemic work.
Despite the spread of the coronavirus around the world, DPRK successfully has kept the country free of the covid-19 infections through fast and strict measures and achieved a miraculous success. This is an incredible result that was brought about by the popular public healthcare system in DPRK, the country which supports the people-first principle as the leading theory of the state.
There is a famous word saying “ the perfect mind in healthy body“. Thanks to this popular public healthcare system, a great number of talents of the new generation are growing healthily so it may be said that DPRK’s future is very bright and promising.
