Witkoff expects expansion of Abraham Accords, warns Iran on nuclear ‘Red Line’

U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff said the Trump administration anticipates significant developments soon, with new countries expected to join the Abraham Accords.

He also expressed optimism that relations between the United States and Iran could improve, ultimately paving the way for a comprehensive peace agreement in the region.

However, in an interview with CNBC, Witkoff cautioned that Iran’s efforts to resume uranium enrichment represent a “red line that cannot be crossed.”

Meanwhile, Israel’s Ministry of International Cooperation stated that the chances of normalization with Lebanon and Syria are growing in light of recent political, geographic, and military changes.

National Security Council Director Tzachi Hanegbi echoed this outlook during a briefing to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

Aligned with President Trump’s broader regional vision, Israel is seeking to leverage the momentum of the Abraham Accords to potentially bring Lebanon and Syria into the normalization framework as part of a wider strategy to counter Iran and stabilize the region.

Despite this push, analysts quoted by Haaretz noted that public sentiment in Lebanon remains largely resistant to normalization, especially given the ongoing humanitarian toll and destruction caused by recent conflicts in both Lebanon and Gaza.
