Washington is expected to extend a key sanctions waiver allowing certain countries to continue purchasing Russian oil and petroleum products, in a move aimed at stabilizing global energy markets amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
According to informed sources, the administration of US President Donald Trump is likely to renew the exemption starting Friday.
The measure forms part of broader efforts to contain volatility in global oil prices following the escalation of conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The US Treasury Department had initially introduced the waiver in mid-March, permitting limited transactions involving Russian oil despite existing sanctions. The current 30-day exemption is set to expire on April 11.
Extending the waiver is seen as a strategic step to balance sanctions enforcement with the need to prevent further disruptions to global energy supply and pricing.
