UIS rewrites record books with 10th IBA basketball win

In a remarkable display of consistency and athletic excellence, United Indian School solidifies its status as a dominant force in school-level basketball across the region.

The Inter School Basketball Tournament at the UIIS and UIS courts saw United Indian School teams excel across multiple age groups. They claimed championship titles in seven out of ten categories.

In a remarkable display of consistency and athletic excellence, United Indian School (UIS) secured the Inter School Basketball Tournament title—organized by the Indian Basketball Association, Kuwait—for the tenth consecutive year, solidifying its status as a dominant force in school-level basketball across the region.

The tournament, held from April 18 to 26, at the UIIS and UIS courts, saw UIS teams excel across multiple age groups. They claimed championship titles in seven out of ten categories: U10 Boys and Girls, U12 Boys, U14 Boys and Girls, and U16 Boys and Girls. The U19 Boys and Girls teams finished as runners-up, while the U12 Girls team took third place.

Coach and Head of Department, Mr. Sibi Kurian, presided over spirited contests that showcased both emerging talent and seasoned leadership. His farewell season concluded fittingly with this landmark victory—a testament to his years of mentorship and strategic acumen.

“Today’s achievements reflect the dedication of our players and the unwavering support of our coaching staff,” said Coach Kurian. “I’m immensely proud of every student who stepped onto the court and honored to have led this program.”

Standout performers included Nathan Nelson, Benet, Steve, Nidhi Alex, Jinsa, Keren, Juanita, Sean Cyriac, Biyon, Amal, Johann Thomas, Dheeraj, Dakshin, RichaRenji, Bravy, Breyona, Alpha, Benita, John George, Daron, Eshan Ahmed, Alan, Alvis, and many more.

From this talented cohort, the following students were named Most Valuable and Promising Players in their respective age groups: Nathan Nelson (U10 Boys), NidhiAlex (U10 Girls), Sean Cyriac (U12 Boys), Richa Renji(U12 Girls), Johann Thomas (U14 Boys), John George (U14 Girls), and Eshan Ahmed (U16 Boys).

Parents, staff, and alumni gathered to applaud as the UIS banner was hoisted once again—signaling not just a season’s triumph but a decade of dominance. In his closing remarks, Principal Mr. Radhakrishnan C. lauded the players for their teamwork and resilience:

“This tenth title is more than a statistic—it’s the product of character, commitment, and cooperation. Our students have set a benchmark for future generations.”

A note of appreciation

“Congratulations to Coach Sibi Kurian and every player who poured their heart into this tournament,” said Mr. Joel Jacob. “Your dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship have made the UIS community immensely proud. You’ve not only upheld our legacy but also inspired every young athlete watching today. Here’s tomany more victories—on and off the court!”

The closing ceremony, held on April 11, was graced by the presence of Mr. Khaled Al Khalaff, Head Coach of the Kuwait Basketball Team, along with several other prominent basketball players from Kuwait.

As UIS bids farewell to Coach Kurian, the program looks ahead with newly crowned champions and a legacy that promises to inspire. The school community will carry this historic achievement into the next season, determined to keep the championship streak alive.
