UIS pioneers fully virtual school student council election for 2026–27

In a demonstration of adaptability and technological prowess, the United Indian School (UIS), Kuwait, concluded its School Student Council Elections for the academic year 2026–27. By transitioning the entire democratic process to a sophisticated digital platform, UIS has proven that leadership and civic engagement remain vibrant, even in a virtual environment.

“Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education,” stated Franklin D. Roosevelt. Embodying this sentiment, UIS ensured that its students were not just voters, but informed digital citizens.

A Modern Path to Leadership

The journey began on April 16, 2026, with a rigorous multi-step nomination system. Candidates who displayed exceptional discipline and potential confirmed their candidacy through online consent forms.

The nomination and campaign trail took a modern turn on April 28, as candidates leveraged the TMS App and YouTube to share video manifestos. This digital format allowed the electorate to evaluate their future leaders’ visions with unparalleled accessibility, resulting in a staggering 91.3% voter turnout from Grades IX to XII.

Innovation & Integrity

The election was conducted with high security through the official UIS online portal. To ensure transparency and eliminate bogus voting, students were required to log in using school-issued email IDs linked to their admission numbers.

The custom-built portal not only secured the vote but also revolutionized the tabulation process. Results—complete with detailed demographic statistics—were generated within minutes of the polls closing, showcasing the efficiency of reimagining traditional school practices through technology.
