Turkish Ambassador Visits The Times Kuwait, Highlights Growing Bilateral Ties
Her Excellency Tuba Nur Sönmez, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Kuwait, paid a courtesy visit to The Times Kuwait, where she met with Editor-in-Chief Tareq Yousef Al-Shumaimry and Executive Managing Editor Reaven D’Souza for wide-ranging discussions on issues of mutual interest.
The meeting reflected the strong and enduring relationship between Türkiye and Kuwait, with both sides exchanging views on the continued growth of bilateral cooperation across political, economic, cultural and media spheres.
Discussions focused on the excellent state of Türkiye-Kuwait relations, which have continued to strengthen through regular high-level exchanges and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education and cultural engagement. The participants also explored opportunities to further enhance business partnerships, particularly in light of the increasing economic collaboration between the two friendly nations. Türkiye and Kuwait elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership following recent high-level visits, with both countries seeking to significantly expand bilateral trade and investment.
The conversation also covered recent regional developments and the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and international cooperation in promoting peace, stability and prosperity across the Middle East. Ambassador Sönmez shared Türkiye’s perspectives on current regional issues and underscored the importance of continued coordination among regional partners to address common challenges. Türkiye and Kuwait have consistently maintained close consultations on regional matters and share common positions on several key issues affecting regional peace and humanitarian efforts.
Business and defence cooperation also featured prominently during the meeting. Both sides acknowledged the growing momentum in economic relations, including increasing commercial exchanges, investment opportunities and cooperation in strategic sectors. They noted that stronger business partnerships, coupled with expanding defence and security cooperation, continue to reinforce the comprehensive relationship between the two countries.
Al-Shumaimry welcomed Ambassador Sönmez and reaffirmed The Times Kuwait’s commitment to promoting constructive dialogue and highlighting initiatives that strengthen bilateral relations and foster greater understanding among nations.
They also expressed appreciation for the Embassy’s active engagement with the media noting that accurate and responsible journalism plays an important role in promoting stronger people-to-people ties and showcasing the positive developments in Kuwait’s international partnerships.
Ambassador Sönmez thanked The Times Kuwait for its continued coverage of matters relating to Türkiye and Kuwait and commended the publication for its contribution to informed public discourse and its role in highlighting issues of regional and international significance.
