Tender approved to replace four key power transformers in Salmiya
Upgrade targets peak summer demand

The Central Agency for Public Tenders has approved a request from the Ministry of Electricity and Water to float a tender for urgent works to replace four power transformers at the Salmiya “W” substation.
The move is part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency in one of Kuwait’s most densely populated and high-demand areas, reports Al-Jarida daily.
This tender aligns with the ministry’s broader strategy to upgrade infrastructure and accommodate the steady rise in electricity consumption, particularly during the summer peak season and ongoing urban expansion.
The project involves installing four modern, high-efficiency transformers, which are expected to reduce the risk of unexpected power outages while improving electricity quality and overall grid stability in Salmiya and surrounding areas.
Classified as an emergency priority project, the works are crucial to maintaining uninterrupted service and strengthening the power system’s readiness for future demand.
The tender is likely to attract strong competition from specialized energy and infrastructure companies. The ministry aims to award the contract based on both technical excellence and cost efficiency, ensuring timely execution in line with the highest engineering standards.
MEW continues to roll out development and maintenance projects across all governorates to boost network efficiency and enhance service quality.
