{"id":94085,"date":"2022-04-03T12:04:12","date_gmt":"2022-04-03T09:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.163.207.100\/~timesku1\/news\/?p=94085"},"modified":"2022-04-03T12:04:12","modified_gmt":"2022-04-03T09:04:12","slug":"pakistan-parliament-dismisses-no-confidence-motion-against-khan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timeskuwait.com\/news\/pakistan-parliament-dismisses-no-confidence-motion-against-khan\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan Parliament dismisses no-confidence motion against Khan"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"article__subhead css-1wt8oh6\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>PM Khan says he advised the president to dissolve Parliament and call for fresh elections.<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Imran Khan has survived a move to oust him as Pakistan\u2019s prime minister, getting a reprieve when the deputy speaker of Parliament blocked a no-confidence motion as unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>Khan, whose fate was not immediately clear, later advised the country\u2019s president to dissolve Parliament, leading to fresh political instability in the nuclear-armed country of 220 million people.<\/p>\n<p>The National Assembly deputy speaker, of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, dismissed the move against Khan on Sunday, saying it went against Article 5 of the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s news website Dawn.com reported that, according to Article 5, \u201cLoyalty to the State is the basic duty of every citizen,\u201d and \u201cobedience to the Constitution and law is the [inviolable] obligation of every citizen wherever he may be and of every other person for the time being within Pakistan\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the advice reaches the president, assemblies will be dissolved which will be followed by the process of setting up a caretaker government,\u201d Khan said in a live speech on state-run channel PTV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have decided to hold sit-in in the National Assembly unless voting on no-confidence motion takes place,\u201d Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are contacting the Supreme Court over this violation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s embattled PM was set to face the no-confidence vote on Sunday after the opposition said it had the numbers to win.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition needs a simple majority of 172 votes in Pakistan\u2019s 342-seat Parliament to unseat Khan, a cricketer-turned-politician.<\/p>\n<p data-inc=\"2\">Key partners in his small but key coalition, along with 17 of his own party members, have joined the opposition to remove him.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, giant metal containers blocked roads and entrances to the capital\u2019s diplomatic enclave, Parliament and other sensitive government installations in the capital.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Source: Al Jazeera &amp; News Agencies<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PM Khan says he advised the president to dissolve Parliament and call for fresh elections.
