During the course of my career, as a manager, mentor and human resources director, I have found that more women than men tend to lack the confidence to go for promotion or apply for the more popular jobs. I think there are many reasons why this might be the case. My advice is not to overthink these applications. If you like the sound of a job, or you would enjoy the challenge of taking on more responsibility, then just have a go. There is no need to feel embarrassed if you are not successful.
