Kuwait Assistant Foreign Minister and head of Foreign Ministry’s Human Rights Office, Talal Al\u00ad-Mutairi was elected as member of Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC).<\/p>\n
This came during elections for the membership of IPHRC, held on sidelines of OIC’s foreign Ministers’ meeting in Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait won the largest number of votes.<\/p>\n
Al\u00adMutairi, speaking to KUNA, said Kuwait’s membership reflected “wise policy” of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al\u00adAhmad Al\u00adJaber Al\u00adSabah, and its distinguished human rights and humanitarian record.<\/p>\n
The IPHRC, he explained, has the power to monitor human rights issues referred by the Foreign Ministers.<\/p>\n
It also offers advice to the foreign ministers over human right issues. The IPHRC, said Al Mutairi, also followed up many issues like human rightsin Palestine, Muslim minorities in Western countries, Islamophobia, the Rohingya and situation in Central Africa.<\/p>\n
IPHRC works on raising awareness among member countries over human rights. The Commission consists of 18 members divided into three groups: Arab, Asia and Africa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
