The Ministry of Health is intending to postpone the second dose of the Oxford vaccine to those who received the first dose for 3 months, Al-Qabas daily said, in a step aimed at expanding the number of segments covered by the vaccination.<\/p>\n
Health officials revealed to Al-Qabas that this delay comes after the publication of medical studies confirming that the effectiveness of the vaccine increases with the delay of the second dose, explaining that those who received the first Pfizer dose will receive the second on time after a period ranging between 21 and 28 days without any delay.<\/p>\n
They confirmed that the advance appointments granted to take the second dose of the Oxford vaccine will be rescheduled to take place after 12 weeks from the time of receiving the first dose, and not after 4 weeks as they were informed, via a text message on their phones.<\/p>\n
According to these officials, recent studies have shown that the Oxford vaccine may reduce Coronavirus infection, as well as provide strong immunity for three months after receiving only one dose, noting that postponing the second dose of the vaccine to approximately 3 months, will allow for giving the first dose to more target groups now until the arrival of other quantities, whether from “Oxford or Pfizer”, or other vaccines that will be officially approved in the coming period.<\/p>\n
