Botswana is well known for having some of the best wilderness and wildlife areas on the African continent. The Okavango Delta<\/h1>\n

Location and size<\/strong>
\nSituated in north-west Botswana in the Kalahari Basin, the area of the Okavango Delta varies between 15 000 and 22 000 square kilometres, depending on season and annual flood regimes. The Moremi Game Reserve (5 000 square kilometres) is located in the eastern part of the Okavango Delta and has an abundance of a variety of wildlife.<\/p>\n

Habitat<\/strong>
\nThe Delta\u2019s extremely diverse habitat comprises extensive permanent waterways and swamps, seasonally flooded grasslands and floodplains and dense woodland. The Okavango Delta owes its existence to the great Okavango River which flows from the Angolan Highlands (where it is known as the Cubango River), across Namibia\u2019s Caprivi Strip and into the dry and flat Kalahari Desert. Each year the Okavango River discharges an unbelievable 11 cubic kilometres of water into the Delta; most is either evaporated, transpired or percolated; none of it flows an ocean.<\/p>\n
