Hundreds of expatriate workers employed with businesses whose licenses were suspended could face deportation, unless their sponsors rectify the status of the suspended licenses.<\/p>\n
A special committee, comprising of members from the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Commerce, Kuwait Municipality and the Public Authority for Civil Information, recently held inspection visits to commercial stores in the Capital governorate.<\/p>\n
The committee discovered over 99 commercial businesses were operating despite having their licenses suspended for various infarctions. These firms were also found to be employing 498 workers, whose residences had expired or were about to expire.<\/p>\n
The employees would not be able to renew their residency permit and could face deportation, unless the companies involved rectifying their suspended licenses, said Mubark Al-Azmi, the inspection committee chairman and acting-director of PAM.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the committee had sent copies of the citations against the erring companies to all members of the committee so that the respective entities can act according to its responsibilities. He also added that the committee will continue to inspect all malls in the various governorates to find out if there were any illegal businesses operating there.<\/p>\n
