Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah affirmed on Tuesday that the Ministry will summon Cypriot Ambassador to Kuwait to discuss the process of returning Kuwaiti nationals stranded in Cyprus since August.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a local event for addressing the needs for seniors, Al-Jarallah added that the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Cyprus have begun the same procedures with the Cypriot authorities to hasten the return of the detainees.<\/p>\n
Al-Jarallah affirmed that the ministry have been working on the case and to ensure the fair trial of the Kuwaitis. He also stressed that the Ministry will not allow the trial to be postponed to February.<\/p>\n
The Cypriot authorities detained ten Kuwaitis in August for getting into a fight with Britons in Ayia Napa, a resort town on the southeastern coast of Cyprus. According to local Cyprus media, two British holidaymakers suffered serious injuries, with one British national sustaining stab wounds during the street brawl wherein the men traded vicious punches and kicks with Kuwaitis on the streets of Cyprus. The Kuwaitis fled the scene, leaving the two British men injured on the ground, and members of the public rushed to their aid, taking them to Famagusta Hospital with various injuries.<\/p>\n
Two Kuwaitis were also treated for bruises and scratches and were later released, reported Cyprus Mail.<\/p>\n
The altercation began between a group of 20 British and Kuwaiti nationals at the hotel complex around 7pm on Thursday, 29 August, before escalating to the streets, bringing nearby traffic to a standstill, stated local police to Cyprus Mail. Around 250 people were witnesses to the fight at the hotel.<\/p>\n
