Neurosurgeon Dr. Hari Priya Pandey managed to remove the 8-centimetre worm from the patient.<\/p>\n<p>The patient was admitted to a hospital in New South Wales in late January 2021 with abdominal pain, diarrhoea, persistent dry cough, fever and night sweats. Symptoms worsened in 2022 to include forgetfulness and depression, reports Al-Rai daily.<\/p>\n<p>Then she was admitted to Canberra Hospital, where MRI scans of her brain revealed abnormalities that required surgery, so Dr. Hari Priya performed the surgery and found the live worm.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, the infectious disease doctor at the hospital, Sanjaya Senanayake, said that this matter \u201chappens once in their professional life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senanayake added that the patient is recovering well and is still under regular medical supervision, stressing that her case highlights the risk of transmission from animals to humans.<\/p>\n<p>After extracting the worm, it was sent to a specialized scientist, who confirmed that it is a worm found in snakes.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian report said that it is the first case of discovering this parasite in humans, explaining that the patient lives near a lake in which a type of snake abounds.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors and scientists who studied her condition suggested that the worm may have reached her through the excrement of snakes in the grass.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In an amazing medical incident, doctors at Canberra Hospital in Australia discovered a live worm in the brain of a 64-year-old woman.
