Members of the Philippine House of Representatives affirmed that suspending the sending of workers to Kuwait until the review of the bilateral agreement is a good step to protect Filipino nationals.<\/p>\n
House Overseas Workers Affairs Committee Chairman Ron P. Salo supported the temporary suspension of the deployment of new domestic workers and new workers to Kuwait, which the Migrant Workers Administration announced on February 8,\u00a0reports Al-Qabas daily.<\/p>\n
The Philippine Manila Bulletin quoted Ron Salo, in a statement, as saying, “I support the Migrant Workers Administration’s move to suspend the deployment of our new and newly recruited workers to Kuwait until appropriate measures are taken to ensure their safety.”<\/p>\n
\u201cIn fact, we need to make sure that those who will be deployed to Kuwait to join the 195,000 domestic workers already working there have the required experience and knowledge about Kuwait\u2019s culture and laws and are subject to protection,\u201d the committee chairman added.<\/p>\n
“We thank the Migrant Workers Administration for doing its best to find opportunities in other markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore and other alternative markets where the rights of OFWs are respected and their safety is ensured,” he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe suspension of deployment came in the wake of the brutal killing of female worker Jollibee Ranara,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
