The Group of Twenty (G20) summit launched Tuesday on Bali Island in Indonesia, where global issues including food and energy’s high costs and recovering from Covid-19 pandemic are on the agenda.<\/p>\n
Expectations that repercussions of the Russian “special military operation” in Ukrainian will dominate the summit’s works.<\/p>\n
During the opening of the summit’s meeting, Indonesian President Joko Widodo stressed that heads of states should not allow another cold war to hit the world, adding “I realize that we need to make huge efforts so we can all sit together in this room”.<\/p>\n
The world is facing unusual challenges and crises, which only elevate the severity of the ongoing conflicts, which on its part is deeply affecting the food and energy supplies, added Widodo.<\/p>\n
The attention is drawn to whether leaders of the world’s major economies can reach some kind of consensus or leave Bali with greater division, as Western leaders are expected to push for condemning the Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
The US and its allies blame Russia for fueling the inflation around the world, while the Kremlin accuses Western countries of instigating a global economic crisis through sanctions.<\/p>\n
Among the leaders present at the summit were US President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, Turkiye President Recep Erdogan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, while Russian President Vladimir Putin chose to send his Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to represent him in the meetings<\/p>\n
