Website launched to monitor, track Sustainable Development Goals

The Director General of the Central Administration of Statistics, Munia Al-Qabandi, has announced the official launch of the website dedicated to monitoring and tracking the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In a press statement, Al-Qabandi emphasized that the website is built upon official statistics and data derived from national statistical systems, forming the foundation for monitoring the progress of sustainable development objectives, reports Al-Anba daily.

The Central Statistical Administration has been actively collecting data and monitoring indicators to align with Kuwait’s commitment to implementing the 2030 sustainable development plan. As part of this initiative, the administration will issue voluntary national reports that include comprehensive monitoring and analysis of the country’s progress toward achieving the SDGs.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was officially launched on January 1, 2016. In response to this global commitment, the CAS developed the official website to monitor the indicators associated with the 2030 SDGs.

The website is equipped with an automated system that houses a database for tracking and measuring progress toward the sustainable development objectives. It is also designed to connect with various agencies responsible for providing indicators data and meeting local, regional, and international requirements.

Among the key outputs of the website are database of indicators for the SDGs and the issuance of comprehensive reports on Kuwait’s current situation in terms of progress toward the 2030 sustainable development objectives. These reports will be released on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Additionally, the website will provide reports on the data providers and the methodologies used to compile the data.

The main goals of the statistics department in this endeavor include improving data collection and processing, developing statistical indicators and periodic reports to measure progress towards the SDGs, and enhancing the capabilities of government institutions, civil society, and the private sector to effectively gather and analyze data.

Furthermore, the initiative aims to foster cooperation and coordination between government institutions, civil society, and the private sector to achieve the SDGs.

It also seeks to promote transparency and accountability in data collection and analysis, providing statistical reports, and generating up-to-date information to aid decision-making and shape public policies in various sectors such as the economy, health, education, and the environment.

One of the key objectives is to achieve sustainable and comprehensive development across all aspects of economic, social, and environmental life while striking a balance between these three pillars.

Al-Qabandi emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the significance of statistical data and its role in making informed decisions and establishing effective priorities to achieve sustainable development goals.
To effectively monitor and follow up on the indicators related to the SDGs, a technical working group has been formed, which will participate in the work of the permanent national steering committee for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Kuwait.

The CAS has also undertaken efforts to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge about the development goals by organizing technical workshops and participating in local, regional, and international seminars and conferences.

Ultimately, the CAS is committed to supporting the sustainable development plan and enhancing data collection efforts while developing statistical capacities and exploring new sources of data to meet national needs and fulfill its role as the coordinator of the national statistical system, providing the necessary foundation for global indicators.
