The US Chargé d’Affaires in Kuwait Jim Holtsnider said Kuwait has made progress in the field of women’s rights and indicated that the appointment of 17 new female prosecutors and 8 female judges in 2022 is a good step for women’s empowerment.
Holtsnider added there is still room for improvement in everything related to administrative deportation of expatriates without judicial review, explaining that promoting respect for human rights is a priority of US foreign policy that promotes our national interests and security, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Commenting on the annual human rights report finally issued by the US State Department for 2022, Holtsnider said, “We are having intense and serious discussions about human rights with friends like Kuwait. We work in different ways with different countries and always try to determine how we can advance human rights in a more effective manner.
“Our goal has always been to identify human rights challenges and to use our voice, our position on the world stage, and other policy tools to draw attention to human rights violations and abuses, no matter where or when they occur or who commits them, to improve respect for human rights around the world,” he added.
Holtsnider stated that the United States has worked for decades to promote respect for human rights, which is a priority of American foreign policy, stressing that societies that respect and defend human rights, fundamental freedoms, democratic institutions and the rule of law are more stable and secure.
