UN institutes austerity measures amidst severe cash crunch

The United Nations is facing a severe cash crunch as most of the member nations have been defaulting on their payments, thus the organization has been taking serious cost-cutting measures.

At its headquarters located in midtown Manhattan, New York City, austerity measures that came into force on Monday include limited interpretation and translation services, halt of after-hour meetings and late-night receptions, and cutbacks in the building’s cooling and heating, provision of water at meetings, as well as shutting down of some escalators.
