UK’s chief medical officer Chris Whitty confirmed Saturday that a new coronavirus strain that surfaced in the country could spread faster and called for greater public vigilance to reduce transmission, UK media reported.
Whitty said London had informed the World Health Organization of its findings.
The new variant is spreading more rapidly than the original version but is not believed to be more deadly. Large parts of south-east England, including London, are now under a new, stricter level of restrictions in a bid to curb the rapidly spreading virus, reports BBC
