Starting from 11:59 PM, on April 24, passengers from India will not be permitted to travel to the UAE on any airline, according to notices sent by UAE-based airlines to trade partners, Khaleej Times reported.

This measure, taken as a precaution amidst rising coronavirus cases in the country and the threat of a mutant covid variant, will stay in effect for 10 days, as per the notice.

In addition, transit passengers from India are also not permitted to enter the UAE, unless they have spent time in other countries for 14 days. UAE citizens, diplomatic missions and official delegations are given an exemption.

Flights schedule for departure and cargo flights will remain as planned between both countries.

Khaleej Times also reported that bookings for flights from the UAE to Indian destinations is blocked from April 24 on the airline websites of Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Air Arabia.

UAE joins the list of eight countries around the world who have instituted travel bans and restrictions on passengers from India to prevent the spread of Covid-19, which could possibly lead to a crisis in their own healthcare sector.

This follows after India recorded the world’s highest daily tally of 314,835 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday, with rising fears of a second wave of the pandemic, as the hospitals find it difficult to cope with the large number of infected patients.
