Twitter restricts use of ‘TweetDeck’ to verified accounts owners

Twitter has announced that TweetDeck, a popular program that allows users to monitor multiple accounts simultaneously, will be available only to owners of “verified” accounts starting next month.

The social media network, which was bought by billionaire Elon Musk last year, is looking for ways to make a profit, cutting staff and increasing paid subscriptions, reports Al-Rai daily quoting AFP.

Most of the Twitter users whose accounts were verified are those who paid to obtain the blue authentication mark, although Musk granted this mark to some users, while some of those who obtained it maintained it according to the previous system.

TweetDeck, launched more than a decade ago, shows messages in columns, with search and post functions that work differently across a website or app.

Twitter said in a message published on Monday that it is launching a new version of TweetDeck with different new functions.

“Within 30 days, the use of TweetDeck will be restricted to those with verified accounts,” the letter said. A series of changes to the way Twitter operates disrupted the ability of many TweetDeck users to view posts over the weekend.

Twitter bought TweetDeck in London in 2011, in a deal estimated by specialized media at the time at $40 million.
