Traffic campaign ends with over 30,000 citations issued

In a bid to reduce traffic violations, arrest offenders and impound their vehicles, as well as better regulate traffic and mitigate congestion on roads, the Traffic Sector of the General Traffic Department (GTD) launched a week-long stringent inspection campaign.

The traffic campaign, which was organized from 30 November to 6 December, and supervised by the Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior for Operations and Traffic Affairs, Major-General Jamal Al Sayegh, resulted in the issuance of 34,617 citations and impounding of 60 vehicles that were towed to the police garage.

In addition, the campaign led to the arrest of 65 violators of the laws and 11 persons wanted by law in various cases, including possessing narcotics and drugs.

Hawalli governorate recorded the most number of violations at 8,071 violations, followed by Farwaniya governorate with 6,861 violations, and Capital governorate in third place with 6,038 violations. Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorate had the least number of violations at 1,577; Al-Ahmadi came in with 3,722 violations and Jahra governorate with 3,950 breaches of the law
