The Times Kuwait supports Masterclass News Writing and Broadcasting Workshop

 News Writing and Broadcasting workshop organized by Masterclass Lifestyle Workshops in collaboration with Mega Love Radio and sponsored by the Times Kuwait was held Saturday morning with initial eighteen participants from different job sectors in Kuwait but with one common interest in news and live broadcasting. 

The four-hour workshop included News Writing and essentials of journalism delivered by GMA 7 News and Current Affairs Correspondent in Kuwait and Journalist of The Times Kuwait Ricky Laxa. Jane Nolasco, former SBN TV 5 Segment Host provided information on Broadcasting, features and news paired with actual group news reporting and finally Mega Love Radio DJs RJ, RZ and Thinkerbell delivered factual details on radio broadcasting with the participants trying their hands on a radio set up during the workshop.

“I’ve always wondered how a news report is written, composed and delivered to the public. With the workshop it gave me a different perspective and better understanding of news and its different approaches to writing it” commented Arlene Mansalay, participant. Among the topics discussed were purpose of the news to the public and its influences on the daily lives of the readers and viewers. Laxa explained that being news should inform, educate, advocate, and serve as platform to several for the public to hear all sides of a story, diversified, objective, unbiased. Nolasco explained further details on the types of media jobs, various ways to become a great presenter and essential qualities of a good broadcast journalist.

“The workshop allowed me to discover more of my interest to be a newscaster, it was fun, educating and empowering, an experience of a lifetime” stated Myra Abdulla, participant.

Mega Love Radio DJs culminated the event with actual use of equipment of a live radio station, each participant was given 5 minutes on the microphone with script paired with their impromptu spills to the delight of everyone. “I won’t miss opportunities like this for me to enrich my knowledge and skills. It also inspired me to try my hands on vlogging in the coming months” commented Ma Luisa Sayo, participant.

Three Philippine Embassy officials were present and participated in the workshops: Luis Carlos Osorio, Yasmeen Akasha and Frances Anne Jamisola. Certificates of participation were awarded at the end of the workshop and certificate of appreciation to Nolasco and Megalove Radio.
