Surplus land for storage negatively affects industrial development

The Kuwait Municipality revealed that there is a surplus in the lands allocated for storage in the country, based on the recommendations of updating the third structural plan of the country for the year 2030, considering that “the increase in storage sites negatively affects the industrial development strategy in the country.”

In response to a question by a member of the Municipal Council, Fahd Al-Abd Al-Jader, regarding the industrial plots designated for storage, of which Al-Rai obtained a copy, the storage areas should not exceed 13.96 square kilometers.

The sources stated that “by examining the current storage sites in the country, it was found that the total storage area is 21.87 square kilometers, and it is noted that the total areas of those storage areas actually exceed the storage areas recommended by the Third Structural Plan,” noting that “the allocation of new storage lands must be a reflection of the strategic plan for the future industrial development of the country.”

In its response, the municipality provided details of the large storage sites and their affiliation with 8 government agencies, which are the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Electricity and Water, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Public Authority for Industry.
