Suhail predicts a season of scarce rainfall

While many are waiting for the emergence of the Suhail star on Aug 24 and the refraction of temperature with its appearance, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, Badr Al-Amira, said with “the type of wind that accompanies the Suhail star it is possible to predict the amount of rain expected for the coming winter.”

If Suhail appears and the wind is northwest, then the rain will be weak, because those winds are dry and cross the deserts but if the wind is south, then this predicts heavy rainfall because it crosses the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea and is loaded with high humidity and carries with it clouds and rain.”

Al-Amira concluded, in a statement to “Al-Rai”, that “this year, with the decrease in humidity after the appearance of Suhail, the rain will be weak,” explaining that “the rise of the star of Suhail is not the end of summer, but rather the end of the intense heat and its moderation during the day two weeks after its rise, with the approach of the autumnal equinox astronomically in mid-September.

Astronomer Adel Al-Marzouq said, “This star, which is about 224 light-years away from the Earth, is the brightest star in the group of stars that make up the Carina galaxy, and it is the second brightest star in the sky that can be seen with the eye, and its appearance is an indicator of the beginning of change and improvement in the weather and the entry into the fall season.
