The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has asked the General Administration of Customs to tighten control and take deterrent measures to stop smuggling of subsidized materials abroad, especially to neighboring countries.
The Ministry said it is necessary to intensify customs efforts at border crossings to protect country’s strategic stock to maintain the food security system, reports a local Arabic daily.
The ministry said all countries are rushing to secure their food stocks due to the events unfolding around the world and said this necessitates the “customs” to tighten control at all customs outlets to not allow smuggling of subsidized products.
On the other hand, the Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company in a letter to the Ministry of Commerce said the company’s distributor in Iraq said the flour mills’ subsidized products meant for sale in Kuwait only are being sold in large quantities in the Iraqi market.
The flour mills company indicated that what is happening will have negative repercussions and affects the country’s strategic stock, which requires intensifying efforts to stop these negative practices.
