Students to return to school in two periods, 20 students per class

The mechanism for the return of students to school in the next academic year has become clear after the Education Committee in the Council of Ministers approved the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) plan to return students to regular education in two periods, Al Qabas reported.

Sources revealed to the daily that the committee made amendments and recommendations to the Education plan, modifying working hours to start the first period at 7:30 in the morning instead of seven, and increasing the time for students to leave between the two periods to half an hour instead of 10 minutes, the second period scheduled to start at 11:10 am.

The sources added that the ministerial committee recommended government agencies to coordinate and to assist MoE in implementing the plan, including, the Ministry of Interior and Firefighting, to regulate traffic in front of schools.

According to the sources, the committee stipulated that MoE should not increase the number of students in one class to 20 students, whether in public or private schools, indicating that MoE is considering adding the requirement for students who are not immunized or who have received one dose of vaccination to submit a PCR examination certificate weekly to enter schools.

The sources quoted the Minister of Education’s confirmation.

Dr. Ali Al-Mudhaf during the meeting said that if the health conditions in the country improve, vaccination rates rise and community immunity is achieved, the decision to work in two periods during the next November and September will be reconsidered, and work will be done to return to normal school hours.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Basil Al-Sabah, stressed his keenness during the coming period to increase the number of vaccinated people and to make a significant acceleration in the vaccination process while giving students and teachers the highest priority to obtain the vaccine.
